I had been spending £200 a month, and a significant portion of my time each month, creating Ads of varying types; single image, carousel, video – and despite some minimal success early on, I wasn’t seeing any revenue attributed to Facebook Ads in my Google Analytics or Facebook Insights since this early, and limited, success (I think only once we had £1.5k attributed to all the effort every month for the past 5 years, but you keep thinking “you have to be in it to win it” don’t you?).

Having seen Nick’s videos on YouTube and getting the feeling that 1. He knew what he was talking about and 2. He was sharing his knowledge about Facebook Ads – it wasn’t a ‘hard sell’ video for LRS – we gave him and the team a three-month trial and an initial budget of £2.5k a month. “In for a penny, in for a pound” we thought.

In month one, as the campaigns were just beginning to be set up, £281 spend earned us £5.5K.

In month 2 the now established first 4 Ads earned us £20,550 revenue for £1.5k spent – Nick would tell you what ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) that was, but all I needed to know was that we were seeing results I’d never achieved on my own!

In month 3 we had 5 ads running: A mix of 1. retargeting people – showing them the products they had already looked at on the website and reminding them about it 14 day and 60 days later (our products are not impulse buys – a guttering system is a purchase you make once every 25, 40 or 100 years (depending on which metal system you purchase) and 2. reaching out to people who have shown interest in buying guttering by their other behaviour on FB and the internet. That combination earned £50,280 revenue attributed to FB Ads in FB insights with a budget of £4,730.

We didn’t even need to discuss whether we were going to continue with Nick at our next catch-up Zoom meeting. We were only talking about how much we wanted to increase the budget to going forward!

Our ROAS now is now at a steady average of +10% and our galvanised steel ad has achieved 20.26 ROAs over the last 30 days! Nick also ensured the spend took a deliberate dip over December and Xmas so we weren’t paying for Ads when nobody was thinking about buying or installing guttering. And we are now looking to let LRS experiment with some of our drone footage as video content, in addition to the established Ads, to see how effective different Ad types might be on our potential customer audience on Facebook.
